Woodcut portrait of the author on title verso; 138 woodcut devices in text. 280, [14] (of [16]) pages; lacks final blank. 8vo, 163x111 mm, contemporary limp vellum, worn; contents soiled, scattered ink underscoring and marginalia, dark stains on a few leaves, hole in L4 slightly affecting image on verso, clean tear across M4 repaired with cellophane tape, small portion of woodcut excised from O1 causing text loss on recto. Additional Details

Giovio's dialogue was the first treatise on devices, originally published without illustrations in 1555 in Rome. Rouillé issued the first illustrated edition in 1559. Praz, page 352.
