Plate 27 of the Les Maitres de l'Affiche<> issued in 1895 (the poster was printed in 1894) of the Divine Sarah in a gold, embroidered robe, holding a palm frond with pink flowers in her hair; against a gold, mosaic background. Gismonda was Mucha's first poster and its appearance on the streets of Paris launched the Art Nouveau movement into high gear, and re-ordered the way people thought of posters, which-until this image came along-were always smaller in size and utilized brighter, eye-catching colors, rather than a subtle pastel palette.
