GIUSEPPE MARIA MITELLI
Group of 17 etchings of street vendors from Di Bologna l'Arti per via.

Each circa 1660. Each approximately 280x195 mm; 11x7 3/4 inches, wide margins. Very good impressions of these extremely scarce etchings.

According to Wallace, this is the artist's best known series, "Issued in 1660 and based on a famous group of drawings, now lost, by Annibale Carracci. 'The Arts of the Street' celebrated the various vendors and workmen who plied their trades in the streets of Bologna, providing services as porters, painters, knife grinders, and so on, and sellingall sorts of wares: chairs, meat, hats, quack cures, and so forth," (Reed and Wallace, Italian Etchers of the Renaissance & Baroque, Boston, 1989, page 145). Bartsch 122.
