GIUSEPPE RICCOBALDI DEL BAVA (1887-1976)

ALA LITTORIA / LINEE AEREE. 1934.

39x27½ inches, 99x69¾ cm. Barabino & Graeve, Genoa.
Condition B: replaced left margin and partially-replaced right margin; repaired tears, replaced losses and creases at edges; creases and restoration along vertical and horizontal folds; repaired pin holes in corners.

Riccobaldi studied drawing, painting and set design. He supported himself selling illustrations to books and magazines, and ultimately began designing movie posters. From 1927 on, he mostly designed travel posters, but his advertisements for various products, companies and events remain his most creative and daring work. Pictured here, against the background of a wing and the red, white and green of the Italian flag, is a Savoia-Marchetti S.66, a twin-hulled flying boat which flew for Ala Littoria in the 1930s. Rare. We could find only one other copy at auction.
