GIUSEPPE VASI
Nuova Pianta di Roma in Prospettiva.

Etching on 2-joined sheets of cream laid paper, 1781. 661x910 mm; 26x36 inches (overall), small to narrow margins. Fleur-de-lys in a double-circle watermark. A very good impression of this large etching.

Vasi's (1710-1782) tour-de-force "aerial" map of the city of Rome as it appeared at the end of the 1700s; it was one of his final printed projects after nearly four decades dedicated to making etched views of the city, often overshadowed by his contemporary, competitor, and one-time student, Giovanni B. Piranesi.
