extra-illustrated autograph presentation set of one of the great landmarks of 18th century french art. The fascicles were issued in installments between 1865 and 1870, printed in an edition of 200 unnumbered copies, and presented here in a fine specimen of French binding by Pomey. The set includes an Autograph Letter Signed by Edmond de Goncourt and another by Jules de Goncourt (inlaid to size in Volume 1), as well as numerous additional portraits and reproductions of artists such as Saint-Aubin, Prudhon, Watteau, Boucher, Greuze, Fragonard, Chardin and many others.
