Mostly printed in black letter. 4to, 182x138 mm, later 19th-century gilt-panelled black morocco by Zaehnsdorf, light scratch on front cover; contents washed, but with residual toning and soiling, and dampstaining at end, upper margins trimmed affecting some headlines, title soiled and creased, with faded old inscriptions, rehinged and remargined, next leaf rehinged, paper fault in lower outer corner of T4 touching catchword, repaired wormholes in last 2 leaves affecting a few words in sidenotes. scarce first edition in english, translated by Robert Parke from the 1586 Madrid edition, which had been expanded to include the report by Antonio de Espejo of his 1583 expedition to New Mexico. Pages 305-410 contain the narrative of Loyola's circumnavigation, incorporating the text by Espejo on pages 323-40.
