roman number four of only ten sets of monotypes signed by gorey on the colophon. In addition to this limited set, 26 sets created as collograph prints lettered A-Z were printed simultaneously. While the lettered set has appeared on the market, Malcolm Whyte, in his essay "The Artist's Hand" in Toledano's bibliography (page 162) claims the monoprint series was announced but never completed. It was, in fact, though slightly later, after the publication of Goreyography. The suite features a dark, shadowy elephant/man creature in a variety of active poses which Whyte described as "posing, drifting, trapezing" and that the medium of collography as allowing Gorey "a looser, sweeping energy and a dark, forceful stance"--ibid.
