Odgred Weary is an anagram for Edward Gorey which he used again in subsequent publications. Considered one of his more disturbing books and the first which focused on the vulnerability of children, Gorey was exploring the old New England legend of the taking of Indian babies by eagles, a tale especially well-known among Cape Codders. The story appears in Chapter 14 of Moby Dick (Nantucket), an influential book for Gorey: ". . .
