Additional Details

first limited edition. marked k of only 26 lettered copies signed by gorey with the hand-painted cover. Gorey, a who rarely missed a performance by the New York City Ballet for over two decades, was asked by Lincoln Kirstein, Director of the New York State Theater, to contribute something for the troupe's 50th season. He created these illustrations which appeared in a slightly different format under the title Ballethooha in the 1970 season Playbill. Gorey published this version with Gotham three years later; the tutus on the cover of each copy of The Lavender Leotard were hand-colored by Gorey because the printer could not match the exact shade.
