Unlike most salesman's samples, this copy was apparently used by the main office of the publisher, Charles L. Webster & Co, in which Mark Twain was a partner. The bound-in correspondence is all addressed directly to Webster, asking them to send a canvasser. Most or all of the subscribers are from New York.
