Additional Details

first american edition, presentation copy, inscribed: "For Sylvia Salmi from Graham Greene." Salmi (her sticker on front pastedown) was a highly regarded photographer who did portraits of such literary figures as Wallace Stevens and Edmund Wilson. Beginning on p. 38 there are a series of marginal autograph notations, changing the British vernacular to its American equivalent (e.g. "You've got a bit of tail. I want a bit of tail too." edited to "piece of tail," etc.). These changes appear in future editions of the book, though who penned them is unknown. Wobbe A35b.
