GRIFFITH "GRIF" HAROLD TELLER (1899-1993) WASHINGTON / THE CITY BEAUTIFUL / PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD. 1935.
39 3/4x24 3/4 inches, 101x63 cm. O. Co., Clifton, N.J.
Condition A-: minor creases in margins and image; minor restoration and expert airbrushing in margins.
Teller almost exclusively painted images for the Pennsylvania Railroad to use on their calendars, which he did from from 1928 to 1942. He also designed two posters for the railroad: "A notable Deco-styled poster selling Washington, D.C. . . . [that] featured the capital's two latest improvements - the new Supreme Court Building [opened in 1935] and [the railroad's] latest streamlined electric locomotive" (Zega p. 109). The engine is Raymond Loewy's industrial design marvel, the GG-1 electric locomotive. Teller p. 20, Zega 139, Affiches Chemins de Fer p. 99.
