GUSTAVE BAUMANN
The Town of Nashville.

Color woodcut on Japan paper, 1910. 232x336 mm; 9 1/8x13 1/4 inches, full margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression of this extremely scarce print.

Nashville was the county seat of Brown County, Indiana, where Baumann summered in 1910. Located approximately 230 miles south of Chicago, it was very rural even in the early 20th century. Nashville did not receive electricity until the mid-1910s. Baumann was among a group of artists who vacationed and worked in Brown County. They are sometimes referred to as The Hoosier Group of artists. Acton 12.
