Borglum was an intense and controversial sculptor best known for designing and overseeing the work on Mount Rushmore. He was active in the committee that created the 1913 Armory Show (though he resigned, feeling that the emphasis on modern art didn't suit traditional artists like himself) and as well as the KKK.
