García Márquez, Gabriel (1927-2014)
El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera.

Bogotá, Colombia: Editorial Oveja Negra, 1985.

Stated first edition, limited issue, octavo; one of 1,000 copies printed for the benefit of survivors from the eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, signed by García Márquez and stamped/signed by a Bogotá notary public; bound in publisher's white vinyl, spine lettered with black; with the white pictorial dust jacket featuring the authors portrait on the back panel; 9 1/8 x 6 1/2 in.

This special, limited-edition copy of El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera was printed just weeks after the Armero tragedy in November 1985. The eruption and resulting mudslides claimed the lives of more than 20,000 Colombians who lived in the town of Armero and in the vicinity of the Nevado del Ruiz. This is the true first edition, created specially to honor the author's fellow countrymen suffering in the aftermath of Colombia's worst natural disaster. The first translated edition of Love in the Time of Cholera was printed in Dutch in 1986, followed by the first English language edition two years later.
