Additional Details

This collection of verses was compiled in remembrance of the St. Bartholomew's Eve Massacre. Several thousand French Huguenots were brutally attacked and murdered in Paris after an attempted assassination of de Coligny, their military and political leader. Henry III of Navarre (later Henry IV of France) ordered the assassination and the additional attacks, which gripped Paris for several weeks in late August and early September of 1572.
