Gil Polo, Gaspar (1540?-1591)
Los Cinco Libros de la Diana Enamorada.

Brussels: Por Roger Velpio y Huberto Antonio, 1613.

12mo, bound in full red morocco by Brugalla in 1941, tooled in gilt with emblem of Isidoro Fernandez on both boards, Fernandez's gilt-tooled morocco book label inside front board, all edges gilt (contents washed); 4 7/8 x 2 3/4 in.

Palau 102078; rare at auction.

Gil Polo's Diana is a continuation of Montemayor's original, and a successful one at that. The Diana Enamorada holds a place within the collecting world of Cervantes, as he both praised and imitated it, especially in his Canto de Caliope.

[Together with] Los Siete Libros de la Diana de George de Montemajor, Paris: Chez Rolet Boutonné, 1613, octavo, bound in contemporary limp parchment, 6 1/2 x 4 in. (2)

From the Ken Rapoport Collection.
