A Typed Letter Signed by Cooper states that the medallion was flown on Gemini 5 and is from his personal collection. Additionally, the letter reads: "The eight days of Gemini 5 established a then world record for space flight endurance. Our flight placed the United States in the lead of manned space flight missions which carried us forward to the first lunar landing on July 20, 1969."
