First edition, three large folio volumes, all title pages printed in red and black with engraved vignettes, half-titles present in each, illustrated with seventy-five full page engravings, and thirty folding plates; the set bound in uniform later sheepskin spines with paper-covered boards, original edge coloring, some old library stamps, some removed from title pages resulting in holes (repaired); contents very good, 16 3/8 x 10 3/4 in. Gori, an antiquarian who spent his whole life in Florence, wrote and published this first complete inventory of all known ivory consular diptychs from Late Antiquity. Included in Gori's Thesaurus is a description and engraving of the Barberini Ivory, a masterpiece of the genre now preserved at the Louvre.
