H. VOM HAU (DATES UNKNOWN0 DAS LICHTBILD. 1922.
36 1/2x24 1/4 inches, 92 1/2x61 1/2 cm. Atelier Merkur, Leipzig.
Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds; repaired tears in image.
As one of the main centers of German typography and publishing, Leipzig was also one of the earliest cities to organize photography exhibitions. "Das Lichtbild," The Photograph, was a show that traveled around Germany year after year. Exhibitions such as this were popular in the 1920s in Germany; the most famous of them being the Film and Foto exhibitions. This Art Deco image, with its use of Fraktur typography as opposed to sans-serif, and illustration rather than photomontage, represents the period in the early 1920s right before the German photography world became much more avant-garde.
