Second edition, considerably enlarged, of Hakluyt's 1589 magnum opus, "the most complete collection of voyages and discoveries . . . and of the nautical achievements of the Elizabethans" (Hill). Second issue of Volume 1, with title dated 1599, and without the 7 leaves on the 1596 conquest of Cadiz under the Earl of Essex, which were suppressed by order of Queen Elizabeth.
