first edition. inscribed and signed by mountaineer clarence king, the first director of the United States geological survey, to H. M. Olmsted. Hall's second search for Franklin survivors took him to Repulse Bay, the Melville Peninsula and King William Island. It was a notable expedition as he was among the first explorers to live among the Eskimo and use native methods for travel and survival. The Narrative was published posthumously from his journals after his mysterious death on his third Arctic expedition. Arctic Bibliography 6486; Hill 759.
