The Travelers is an image from Hank Willis Thomas and Sanford Biggers' collaborative series, entitled "Crossroads." With fellow artist Sanford Biggers as the model, Thomas explores the complexities and ambiguities of race. Modeled on Elegba, the Yoruba deity, trickster, and protector of travels and crossroads, Biggers' character is both Black and White - dark and light. The series also alludes to Black Dandyism - its performativity and Vaudeville performers.
