Hofmann's exhibition at Galerie Maeght, Paris, opened in 1949. Two years earlier, the artist had his inaugural show at S. M. Kootz in New York. The New York gallery held a one-man exhibition of Hofmann's work every year until his death (except for 1948 and 1956).
