HANS JOSEF WEBER (1874-1957) VALSUGANA. 1907
38 1/2x28 inches, 97 3/4x71 cm. A. Berger, Vienna.
Condition B+: creases in margins and image and along horizontal fold; water staining in upper right margin. Paper.
In present day Trentino, in Northen Italy, the Sulgana Valley was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Weber was primarily a landscape painter, but from his few known posters, it is also clear that he was a master lithographer, as this view across the Benta river to Castle Pergine practically glows in the soft twilight colors of early evening. The large blank area at the bottom was used to print the train timetables. Alpi Italiane p. 118 (var).
