Part of a series of sculpted busts of noted African-Americans. Hardison (born 1904) studied at the Art Students League in New York City. Many of her sculpted pieces are done in wax, clay or plaster and later cast in bronze. She was a teacher at Hunter High School in New York City, and also became a photographer. Along with five male artists, she helped found the Black Academy of Arts and Letters.
