Additional Details

from the collection of john wood.

A scarce medical title, and one of the earliest volumes to highlight original photographs. This copy with 49 photographs, not the 48 albumen prints in the standard Bibliotheque Interuniversitaire de Medecine.

BIUM suggests the extra plate is for "Pemphigus bulleux." Although the index does suggest 49 plates are called for, subsequently Hardy and Montmeja added twelve plates to the 2nd edition, for a total of 60 images.

In this copy the illustration for "Syphilides Vesiculeuse" is a study of a nude young woman, not the portrait of a middle-aged woman seen in other copies. Conversely, "Syphilide papuleuse lenticulaire" is not the young girl referenced in BIUM, but the older woman sometimes substituted for it.
