HARRY GARNET KELLY (1896-1967) COOL OFF IN TASMANIA. 1929.
39 3/4x25 inches, 101x63 1/2 cm. Syd. Day Ltd, [Sydney.]
Condition A: minor restoration at right edge; unobtrusive horizontal fold.
Kelly, an accomplished watercolorist, is known to have designed at least five posters promoting travel to Tasmania; the others focus on the country's specific natural beauty and sporting opportunities. "The poster was intended as a departure from scenery and trout fishing images. In this poster, the Tasmanian Government Tourist Bureau was returning to the notion of Tasmania as the 'Sanatorium of the South,' which had been used to advertise Tasmania in the 19th century" (http://www.events.utas.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/416846/Poster-exhibition.pdf).
