HARTWELL YEARGANS (1915 - 2005)
Folk Singer.

Woodcut on thin Japan paper, 1965. 330x240 mm; 13x9 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 44/50 in pencil, lower margin. Printed by the artist, New York. Published by Associated American Artists, New York. A very good impression of this scarce print.

According to his estate, this woodcut is the artist's first print. This woodcut is based on another early painting of Yeargans's that is included in the collection of Larry and Brenda Thompson. The Folk Singer, 1963, is illustrated on the front cover of the catalogue for the 2009 exhibition of their collection at the David C. Driskell Center of Art at the University of Maryland, which is now at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville, FL.
