This painting by Hartwell Yeargans demonstrates his early explorations in abstraction with the geometric shapes and linear figures that would bring him recognition. Yeargans studied painting and drawing at the New York City's Art League under Morris Kantor. He received his bachelor's degree from Goddard College in Vermont and later became the instructor for Printmaking at the Brooklyn Museum as well as the instructor of Drawing and Printmaking at Parsons School of Design. Yeargans lived and worked in Copenhagen, exhibiting his work in Paris, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Chicago and Washington DC. He was heavily involved in the arts as well as music, collaborating with musicians such as Duke Ellington in the Festival of the Art, Long Island University, New York.
