A hyper-realist illustrator, the very beautiful (and obviously exhibitionist) Harumi produced many posters taking pictures of her own body and then reworking them with airbrush. These images were very popular in late 1970's Japan. Eiko Ishioka, art director for the Parco department stores, often employed her to design posters as her mixture of American pop culture and soft eroticism perfectly coincided with the public the store was targeting. Few of these posters have survived. The first poster offered here, known as 'Boxing Harumi' exists with different texts and variants of the image. It is another of Harumi's sexy, self-portrait image with boxing added to fuel one of Harumi's personal fantasies - and that of the public. Harumi designed two baseball-themed posters, one with a glove the other with a hat, again each based on photographs of herself, and each bearing different text. Using one of her favorite tricks, Harumi changes her face into that of an stereotypical blonde bombshell, perhaps fulfilling one of her own secret fantasies? Another gently provocative image. Harumi, p. 40, 41 and 36.
