This note was written during a trip to Europe by San Francisco's mayor George Moscone, with Milk serving briefly as acting mayor. The recipients were leading activist Don Amador (1942-1992) of Los Angeles, who taught the nation's first Gay Studies course at California State University, and his husband Tony Karnes.
