Additional Details

First edition of a meditation on societal attitudes towards the deformed and disabled, apparently the first extended treatment of the subject written from an autobiographical perspective. The author and politician Hay (1695-1755), who served for two decades in Parliament, was a hunchbacked dwarf with impaired vision.
