Earth Slice is among the most experimental intaglio prints produced by Frankenthaler (1928-2011). She began experimenting with the image in December 1976 and completed work on the subject in 1978, producing numerous working proofs (Harrison cites approximately 15) as well as a series of "Experimental Impressions" which the artist issued individually as unique monoprints.
