German-born photographer Hans Namuth is widely known for his now iconic portrait photographs of abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock. Namuth's photos of Pollock at work in his Long Island studio amplified Pollock's recognition and are credited with increasing the understanding of his work and techniques. Namuth's portraiture also includes such subjects as Willem de Kooning, Robert Rauschenberg and Mark Rothko. Hans Namuth and Helen Frankenthaler were fequent guests of Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner at their home in Water Mill, Long Island.
