HELEN STONE. "Watch Honeybees with Me." Archive of working and published drawings for the book of the same name by Judy Hawes (London: Adam and Charles Black, 1964). Includes Stone's 50-page mockup of the book with numerous original illustrations and 15 loose illustrations rendered in watercolor, acrylic, ink, and/or graphite on paper, some with printed captions, notations, and measurements. Sizes vary, the largest images comprising double-page spreads measure 305x533 mm; 12x21 inches. Condition varies, but images generally clean. Accompanied by a 1968 edition of the published book.
Stone was a prolific mid-century illustrator with a keen sense of design and color. Her intense commitment to the production process is evident in this archive and the one for "Tell Me, Mr. Owl" in the preceding lot. Stone received two Caldecott Honor Book citations, for "All Around the Town" (1948) and "The Most Wonderful Doll in the World" (1950).
