An important early work by Heller, a pioneer of American graphic art who was not formally trained and who favored bold, abstract designs. Her success in poetry encouraged her to create Migratory Urge, a beautiful marriage of words and images. Blackshear, who attended and then taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, was an important modernist American artist best known for depicting the African American experience.
