heller's first novel and greatest literary and commercial success. inscribed by him to Clifford Scheiner "With pleasure and good wishes. Joseph Heller, Oct. 22, 1992, East Hampton, NY." After the 1986 publication of No Laughing Matter, which described Heller's recovery from Guillan-Barre Disease, Dr. Scheiner, who had diagnosed and treated a number of similar patients, wrote Heller, praising the value of this book to patients and their families with the rare ailment. From this exchange came Heller's willingness to sign Scheiner's copy of Catch-22. Laid-in is single sheet ALS from Heller on his stationery to Scheiner agreeing to inscribe said copy.
