Additional Details

Clara Gatzert Spiegel was a longtime friend of Hemingway. Her husband (of mail-order catalogue fame) was in the Italian Ambulance Corps with Ernest in 1918. When they divorced, she moved to Ketchum Idaho near the Hemingways. She was herself a hunter, sportswoman, and author; she helped Hemingway type and edit For Whom the Bell Tolls.
