Wijdeveld was an architect and the founder of the influential Dutch art magazine Wendingen. He designed many exhibition posters, mixing geometrical elements and sans-serif typography. This example, advertising a Frank Lloyd Wright exhibition "is an intriguing instance of the marriage between typography and abstract form" (Power of the Poster p. 91). "Wijdeveld built geometric letterforms out of the elements of the printer's type case; he converted the constraints of letterpress into the vocabulary of a new aesthetic . . . [this poster] embodies the austere yet ornamental style Wijdeveld developed for the magazine Wendingen" (Mechanical Age pp. 70-71). rare. Power of the Poster p. 90, Modern Dutch 67, Mechanical Age p. 70, Avant Garde p. 145.
