first edition. Hennepin's second book, which recounts his journey up the Mississippi, and adds an account taken from La Salle's journey down the river. Among the plates is the first view of Niagara Falls to appear in print, which according to Dow was "followed by engravers and artists for upwards of one hundred fifty years." Also included are two large folding maps (one of them showing the route of the "Meschasipi" River far to the west of the actual Mississippi) and a somewhat surreal image of a bison.
