The first of two posters Lautrec designed for Simpson, a British bicycle company. His task was to design an image advertising the company's new bicycle chains. Here, Lautrec depicts Jimmy Michael, a famous and race-winning British cyclist who was known for the toothpick he always kept between his teeth. The company allegedly rejected the image because the pedals were not rendered accurately, but Lautrec's second poster for the company La Chaine Simpson renders the pedals and the bicycle chain in an almost identical manner), and Lautrec had 200 copies printed at his own expense. Wittrock P25, Delteil 359, Adriani 188, DFP-II 849.
