This work is accompanied by a letter from the art critic Félix Fénéon that confirms the authenticity of this work and states this it is a study for the oil Paysannes de l'Ombrie, 1909 painted during Cross' second tour of Italy and formerly in the collection of Harry Kessler, Berlin.
