HENRI-GABRIEL IBELSEXPOSITION H. G. IBELS A LA BODINIERE. 1894.
22 5/8x15 3/4 inches. Eugene Verneau, Paris.
Condition B+: wrinkles and creases in image; text banner affixed over part of image. Paper.
Advertising an exhibition of his own works, Ibels employs familiar characters from his other posters, pierrots, circus performers and cabaret singers, all depicted in pastel shades of green, pink and brown. As a tribute to the contemporary popularity enjoyed by Ibels, himself a member of the Nabi group of artists, a text banner has been added to the poster stating that the exhibition has been prolonged and will now run until the end of December (the original printing had the final date as December 15). Maitres pl. 138, DFP-2 475, Reims 746, Exposons p. 16, Wine Spectator 55.
