Evenpoel was a rising star in the art world when his life was tragically cut short at the age of 27. Primarily a painter, he only designed a handful of printed images. This, his best, was a plate in L'Estampe Moderne. It is a five-color lithograph whose subject matter is close to the work of Bonnard, while the sketch and coloring is reminiscent of Lautrec; but the result is very personal with delicate and vivid lines in a masterly composed vision. It is one of the most desirable plates in the entire series. Color Revolution p. 27, no. 20, Lugt 2790, lower right.
