Lithograph printed in black on warm, cream wove Japan paper, 1895. 266x148 mm; 10 5/8x5 7/8 inches, full margins. First and only lifetime edition, before the 1901 and 1925 posthumous editions. This impression possibly the only extant lifetime impression, from an unknown but very small number of proofs. Ex-collection Claude Roger-Marx (Lugt 2229, lower right recto). A superb impression of this extremely scarce, early proof, with strong contrasts and with the impression from the lithographic stone still showing.
