Jules Adeline (1849-1909) was an art critic, and enthusiastic poster collector and a good friend of Ernest Maindron. In 1895, in his native Rouen, Adeline organized a benefit exhibition of his poster collection for which he, himself, designed a poster. The following year, for a subsequent benefit exhibition, Adeline called on the help of a friend and local artist Henri Vignet. Mostly known for his work with murals, this is Vignet's only known poster. He portrays an elegant woman in profile with a Japanese-style fan against a sophisticated, decorative background. A very rare document relating to the "postermania" craze that swept France at the end of the 19th century.
