HENRIETTE BRESSLER CYCLES HUMBER. Circa 1900.
59 1/2x43 inches. Caby & Chardin, Paris.
Condition B+: overpainting in corners and top margin; repaired tears in margins; restoration along vertical and horizontal folds.
The only specific fact known about Henriette Bressler, apart from her gender, is that she designed one other poster, for Angelica<> (a liqueur). From her two posters we can see that, like Jane Atchet, another woman working during the era, Bressler clearly emulated Mucha's style and technique. This very rare, strong Art Nouveau image appears to be a flamboyant variation on Mucha's Cycles Perfecta<> (see lot 71); the major differences being the sharp yellows and blues of her palette, the addition of stars in background, and hair, even more exaggerated than the master's, extending far beyond the frame of the image.
