Watercolor on paper, 1902. 515x371 mm; 20 1/4x14 5/8 inches. Signed, titled and dated in watercolor, lower right recto. With a light preliminary sketch in pencil, verso.

The Abu Simbel temples are located on the west bank of the Nile River. There are two temples in honor of Ramses II, the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt, constructed in approximately 1250 B.C. In the larger of the two temples tower four carvings of the king, two of which are pictured here.
